ThisWeek in AI - Issue #4

If you aren't keeping up with the latest and greatest in Artificial Intelligence, you are falling behind. Don't have the time? Don't worry, I've got you covered. I've decided to publish a list of 5 fascinating AI startups/projects/features every week!

This update focuses on smart AI implementation by existing products/companies to solve interesting challenges. Also, its now time to incorporate AI into your daily activities to become more effective and save loads of time! Give #5 a try, you'll like it!

Lets get started!

1) Player Emotion and Game Difficulty: Gaming companies face an interesting challenge in figuring out the right level of difficulty in their games. Designing something that's too easy or difficult risks driving a significant userbase away from the game. Scientists at Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) have developed a tech (Dynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA)) that relies on in-game signal to assess player emotional state and adjust the difficulty level in real-time to keep their players engaged for longer. 2) AI in Adobe Products: I've used Adobe products like Photoshop, Lightroom and Premiere Pro for years and have absolutely loved their use of AI to simplify complicated workflows for significantly enhanced user experience. That one-click selection or replacement of skies or changing the entire background to something completely different in just a few clicks. Adobe products have long been a powerhouse of AI/ML tools. Check the short video to see one of its many magical features..

3) Swimming Pool Detector: French tax authorities are finding innovative ways to generate more tax revenue from its citizens. It partnered with a few tech companies, including Google to develop an AI-powered tech that analyzes aerial imagery to detect undeclared swimming pools on a property. Authorities detected 20k pool in partially rolled out areas which generated €10m in additional revenue and is expected to generate €40m in 2023 in additional revenue in taxes.

4) FakeCatcher: Intel has announce a new AI-powered tech that analyzes pixels in a video to detect blood. When heart pumps blood, our veins change color that is not visible to the naked eye (photoplethysmography (PPG)). These blood flow signals are collected from all over the face to create a map that helps this tech separate the real from the deepfake videos. Intel has claimed to achieve a 96% accuracy rate using this technique. You can read more in the press release below.

5) BearlyAI: Its time to bring the power and goodness of AI into your daily life to save time but be more effective at what you do!
