AI Bandage Reporting on Wounds, Gadget Translates Baby's Cry, AI Bird Feeder and More!
Issue #9

I visit CES every year and this year was no different. It's not an understatement to say that AI made a strong showing at this year's CES that sets the tone for the rest of the year. It was a great sneak peek into into how AI will improve our quality of life even when we are away from our work machines.
Most of today's 'Five' are from CES. There are many more that are not included in this update, but I'll publish a CES focused post that'll include them all. Stay tuned!!
Let's get into it!
ThisWeek in AI - Five
1) Qbear+: This gadget uses AI to inform parents of their newborn needs after listening to a crying baby for just 10 seconds. It is capable of identifying 4 needs, Hunger, Diaper change, Sleepiness and need for comfort. It is also capable of playing comforting music when babies feel sleepy and change colors to "To stimulate melatonin and help babies’ sleeping quality."
2) VALL-E: Microsoft research recently announced a text-to-speech research project that is capable of cloning from only a 3second recording of a person's voice. It is not only capable of cloning a voice but it can also infuse cloned voice with additional parameters to mimic specific scenarios and emotions, etc.
3) My Bird Buddy: This solar powered, AI infused bird feeder will start taking pictures as soon as a bird lands on it, will analyze pictures to identify bird species and will only send you good pictures and disregards the bad or blurry ones!

4) Adhesiv.AI: This tech, for lack of a better term, is a smart bandage that continuously monitors and tracks the state of the wound. It analyzes the data to identify the need for additional care and alerts the health professionals of the same for a timely and full recovery. More details in the video below.
5) OneThird: Combining AI tech and logistics with the goal of food waste prevention is a great idea and that's exactly what OneThird tech is trying to solve. Company has developed scanners that can scan and predict the shelf life or produce with 1-day accuracy. This information can be use by growers, distributors and retailers to make logistical decisions to minimize food waste and reduce cost to business.
